Our History - Founded in 2001, BSI was responsible for building a professional minor league ballpark and to help spur economic growth, as well as to enhance the quality of life for area residence through sports and entertainment. That was accomplished, and that venue has been the home of the Washington Wild Things for nearly two decades - and has seen countless concerts, college and high school baseball games including WPIAL championship play-offs. Since the ballpark was built - new construction and development nearby has taken place - creating more than 1000 jobs, has stimulated more that $150 million in new construction and is now generating over $1 million annually in new tax revenue.
Our goal is to continue our scholarship program for area high school seniors -boys and girls - to help them advance their education at the college level. So far, BSI has donated nearly $100,000 in scholarships. All Western PA high school seniors - who play sports, are eligible to apply. New programs are being developed to provide scholarships related to international projects. We want promote scholarships based on academics, along with that student's school and community activities & volunteerism.
Our newest goal is to promote and award student athletes who take a leadership role in community and school activities, even more so than we have in the past. Student Leadership Awards will be given to a number of students who take an active part in projects endorsed by BSI - designed to teach the importance of leadership responsibilities, awareness of world events and volunteerism . Under the banner of Education & Leadership, we will be providing more specific information about this aspect in the very near future.
